So after lots of thought about whether I want to return to teaching, go back to school for nursing or pursue a photography career... I decided on photography. I am hoping to have a functional business running in about a year... give/take.
Well, I have dreamt of upgrading to a professional grade DSLR camera. However, they are pretty pricey! A new Canon 5Dmark 11 is running about $2700 for just the body - no lenses. So, I decided I'd have to start saving for a used Canon 5D since that was more in my price range (even though they are over $1000 used - they were about $3500 'new' back in '05, '06, I have heard).
I was hoping to be able to buy a used one perhaps in the summer or fall.
So last weekend I was talking with Jason about this as we were falling asleep. He said I should just go buy a camera... (I had been watching them on ebay).
me "how am I going to buy it?!"
Jason "well miracles can happen" and then he left the room and came back in with an envelope of money! He said "There is enough there to almost purchase a used canon 5D". He explained that he had been donating plasma 2x a week (on his lunch break) and skimming a bit from his 2nd and 3rd jobs. He had planned to continue this until our anniversary when we could surprise me with a new Canon 5Dmk11. But since I opted for the less expensive used camera, he had enough.
Jason fully expected me to be super happy... but instead his thoughtfulness and dedication to me and my dream made me cry. He spent all that time planning and thinking about how he could help me move forward in my photography. It's probably one of the nicest things anyone has done for me. And its amazing to have his support in this. Thanks honey! I love you!
I did tell him to take it easy on the plasma (even though my friend Julie - a Nurse Practitioner - did say it shouldn't effect him as long as he is drinking and eating enough) though!
So I 'won' a camera on Ebay and I received it today! It's amazing!!! I just love it. It makes my Canon rebel seem like a toy. It's so solidly built. So... I played a bit with it (of course!) and here a are a few pictures I took with it. :)
I have more to learn and I want to be a great photographer someday!
The end of my tulips... yes Jason got me a camera, tulips and a massage this month. He better stop spoiling me before I get used to this! HA HA

New videos and pics to come soon!
So cool! I can already see a difference - you are going to LOVE this camera, I can already tell.
ReplyDelete(ps - maybe I'll conveniently put my camera bag next to yours when we are in Chicago. And maybe I'll accidently pick up the wrong camera bag and take it home. just sayin' :)
