Frog Hunting & Aaron's bike ride

In May (ugh! I hate that I am not updating this blog!!!) I took Nicholas, Celia and Aaron to Riveredge Nature Center for a Frog hunt. They don't have rainboots, so they wore their snowboats (recommended boots by the nature center). It was nice and warm that day. Probably our warmest day yet in Summer 2010. They had a frog snack - pretzel sticks dipped in cream cheese and then stick some dried fruit on it = sticky frog tongue getting bugs. It was cute and they liked it.
Then a naturalist took us on a walk around the pond looking for frogs. there were a lot of them. Then the kids learned how to scoop with strainers in the pond and try to catch tadpoles, frogs, fish, etc. Celia caught a HUGE tadpole by herself. Aaron stayed in the ergo carrier the whole time. It would've been way too messy to have him out.
The kids also got to touch frogs people caught, touch tadpoles and then do some straw art. The naturalists put watery soapy paint in a container and the kids blow thru straws to make bubbles. Then they take a paper and make a print of the bubbles.

My friend Erica came with us with her 2 boys - thanks for the picture!!

Also, this is Aaron's birthday gift from Grandma and Grandpa Velicer - a seat for my bike so we can bikeride as a family. He loves it and it is comfortable for the parent! N&C can still fit in it too, so some times we'll take them on individual bike rides. :)
