Thanks to my twin mommy friend's support, we made the move to a time-out chair. Thanks Jenny, Jennifer and Joanna! J-Crew rocks. :)
we have been using the cribs as time-out locations, but now we have a chair in the livingroom set for time-outs. Nicholas and Celia call it the 'No No'.
The first day we set it out I talked with them about the time out chair. I told them that when they push, for example, they would have to sit in the time-out chair until the 'beep' (we set the kitchen timer for 1 minute per years of age - so 2 minutes). Pushing is really the only physical thing they do. They aren't hitters or biters. But, pushing is still not okay. They both seemed to understand what the chair was for since they have had time-outs before in their cribs.
I was expecting a big battle to keep them on the chair for time-outs, but they have shocked me. they actually sit there until the oven timer beeps. They cry and whine about it, but they actually do it. When they are done then Jason and I hug them and remind them why they were on time-out and that they need to do 'xyz' next time. Main things they end up sitting on time-out for would be pushing, throwing toys, or fighting.
I've been really surprised that they will listen when we warn them and say, for example, "If you push those buttons then you will have a time-out" (they play with the dvd player).
We try to catch them being good a lot since the positive comments really help them understand what we DO want them to do.
These kids can surprise me sometimes.

glad that it is working out for you!!! hate that we even have to use time out, but thats just part of toddlerhood i guess!!!
ReplyDeleteThey look too cute sitting in time-out ;). I like how you use child sized chairs for it too. We just finished a time out here...lol.
ReplyDeleteSo glad it was an easy transition for you! Yippee! They are good kids...I bet they hardly ever need to be in that time out chair so its a good thing you got pictures. ;}
ReplyDeleteThe pictures/captions made me laugh right out loud! Super Nanny would be so proud of you! Stick to it, you're doing a great job.
ReplyDeleteCute pictures...but I agree...I bet you hardly have to use it with the sweetness of those two!
ReplyDeleteAND...I'm changing my name so I can be a part of the J-Crew!!!
Yeah, we're having some time-outs, too. We've only had to give them when, thankfully, they have been in their highchairs, so we just roll them over to the corner. I worry they wouldn't stay voluntarily in a chair, but like you say, I've heard other moms say they are surprised at how well they stay there. ;)
