Muddy Indian Summer

Our weather made a turn for the better today. At 70 degrees we just had to spend the day outside. So this morning after breakfast Nicholas, Celia and I drove to a park nearby which I really like because it is low and safe for them. I don't need to worry about them falling off a high platform since it is a low and long structure.
Shortly after we were there Celia found a nice puddle from the rain the night prior. It wasn't long before she was stomping and splashing. And then Nicholas (aka 'me too') came along. I knew they were going to be a mess, but I suppose you're only a child once. They were giggling and laughing together while I clicked the camera. A Grandmother was pushing her young grandson on a swing and she said "How old are they?". I replied that they were almost two and she chuckled as she said "Well they are adorable". So I think she enjoyed watching them splash too.
After the puddle Nicholas started to walk towards the grassy field. We found some dandelions in their final stage of life. I tried to teach them how to blow the seeds off. They tried and tried, but as you can see below, they got more seeds in their mouth than in the air.

After more time on the play structure I lured them back to the van and stripped them down to their diapers and shirts for the ride home. Their muddy pants, socks and shoes are in the washer as I type this. It sure was a nice day.
Trying to decide who should go first. . .

  1. Those are priceless pics!!!! You are great to let them do that! I am sure they enjoyed it. I don't think I could have been so brave, especially knowing they had to get back in the car!!!!!
Love the pic of you holding the dandelion!

  2. How fun for them. I remember playing in mud as a kid :). I bet they loved it. I've never heard the term indian summer before? I hope you have a lot more of indian summers before the snow hits :). Love the dandelion picture too, that's pretty cool!

  3. How fun! Not sure I'd have been brave enough(or crazy enough) to let them do that....but you can make that decision because you get to do the laundry! I'm sure they loved it!

  5. I agree...you're braver than me to let them play in the mud. Thank goodness your shoes are washable! Ours are not so if they play in the mud it would be barefoot I guess...*L* Great pictures and what a fun time! :)
