Today I really tried to spice things up here on the homestead. I think N&C are getting more and more bored as they get older. I have been trying to find some fun things for them to do, but everything is so pricey. Kindermusik sounds so cool. Its a class for different aged toddlers where they sing, play music, etc. Yeah, well from what I can see, it costs $240/a child for 15 wks. I'm not able to spend $500 on a class right about now.
Classes like Gymboree, Tumbling Tykes, etc are better (about $100 for tumbling tykes for the summer). I might go to the free class there and see how it is. $100 would still be kind of a lot, and with gas being so pricey its still in Brookfield, which is a 45 min drive one way.
So, I guess I will have to go look into the YMCA again. My twin mom friend, Joanna, thought I might be able to find something if I call some churches in the area, so I will do that too.
Anyway, today I tried to do some different activities with them. We played toddler music in the livingroom and tried to dance to that. It more involved a work-out for me since I was the one picking them up and trying to get them to move to the words. I didn't know a music session would leave me out of breath.
Then we made an island out of couch cushions and I tried to teach them how to jump. Also left me out of breath.
Then out in the water table I made green colored water with bubbles. That went over better. That didn't make me out of breath.
We blew some bubbles and played outside.
Later on I got them to watch a video so I could cut Nicholas' hair.
Maybe we will find something to do around here. I found a toddler yoga class nearby, but they have to be 2 years old, so we might do that in the winter.
Wow Jill, it sounds like you don't need to go anywhere, you are doing great keeping them entertained on your own. It's hard when they get bored because you are left with whiny kids following you around the house. But sometimes I wonder if the out of house activities are more for me or them - lol. I think the YMCA is worth looking into as well, I should call and see if they have any kid programs in our area. You're doing a great job at being creative with them!
ReplyDeleteSounds great to me too! How are you liking the sand and water table? Do they make much of a mess and track the sand into the house? I wanted to do a sandbox but the thought of them sitting in it and bringing it inside gives me the willies! Funny that you gave N a haircut tonight. I gave Zack one too and I'm waiting for the pictures to load while checking out your blog. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Joanna, you do a great job at home! Plus, everything outside of the home is so expensive. And we have to pay double with twins!
ReplyDeleteI have been thinking about things to do also. I like getting ideas from you and the other bloggy moms! :)
Whew, Jill, I am tired just reading about your day!!!!! Sounds like you are great at entertaining them though. Good luck finding some free activities out of the house! Its not easy!
ReplyDeleteDid you use food coloring for the water?
