This 4th of July was so fun! I'll focus on the parade since that was the major thing we did. At 9:15am we left to drive the couple miles to the downtown parade. We found a spot on Main street and waited maybe 10 minutes or so until the parade had made it to our area. I kind of expected Nicholas and Celia to want to get out of their stroller, but they did so well. They sat in the stroller and ate a couple snacks here/there and were very good. :)
They were happy to wave their flags around in the beginning. I noticed that their facial expressions went from confident to quizzical once the parade started. They looked like they were thinking, "What is going on?"
Here are the before and after expressions - can you tell which is which?

I took some photos of the area. The people lined up along main street and the post office (thought it looked pretty). I like our down town area. This is where the farmers Market is on Saturdays from 7:30am-11am in the summer.

Our friend (Jason's best friend) Matt, was in the parade as well. He has been wanting to get Jason with his water soaker this summer, and here he pulled up to us during the parade in his go-kart and said "I've been waiting for this" and he sprayed Jason with the water all over. Everyone around us was laughing and Matt said "What'cha gonna do about it?" and he drove off. He's gonna get it now! It got hot in the sun, so Jason actually enjoyed the cool-off. lol

I had to take a picture of the person in the beer-costume. Only in Wisconsin. For those of you that are not from or haven't been to Wisconsin, we have more bars than churches (and we are considered the midwestern bible belt).

Here Nicholas was hiding behind his flag.

And 5 month old cousin Lauren being so cute with Grandma!

And look at this abomination. Now, this may have some use on a farm, but having flags hanging from it and as it was considered an actual 'float' (standards have taken a dive) I just had to get a picture of it.

And the one token horse. Isn't there some rule that there needs to be like 6 or 9 horses in a parade? This horse seriously was lonely, but left the parade with quite a complex, I'm sure.

The parade was over at about 10:30/10:45. N&C stayed in the stroller the whole time :) Yay!
We look forward to next year's parade.
This morning Jason went to help my sister and her fiance move, so I took N&C to the farmer's market. People are so friendly and stop and talk about the 'twins' all the time. I actually don't mind it at all. I wonder if since we have so many people approach us being friendly if that rubs off on N&C? Will they have a brighter outlook on strangers? Will they be more outgoing themselves?
Here are highlight comments from the market:
"Aren't you glad it wasn't three?"
"OOOhhhh a boy AND a girl! Those are rare!" (overheard as I walked away)
"Aren't they adorable"
We picked up a basket of strawberries, fresh leaf lettuce, baklava from a Greek woman, and 2 chocolate chip cookies. Yum! We walked to the library from the farmer's market to get a Raffi CD but they were closed this saturday for the holiday.
Hope you had an excellent weekend! :)
It was such a wonderful day! We are so thankful for the country we live in and for those that have fought to provide the freedom we enjoy.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you had a great day with wonderful weather. We had an overcast, rainy day here. :( N&C are so cute in their red, white, and blue with their American flags. ;)

ReplyDeleteHow fun that you guys had a parade in your town, I would love to do something like that. I love the before and after pics of N&C, too funny. I can just picture my two doing that too. I bet the friendly twin comments will have a positive effect on N&C. We rarely get comments anymore which is kinda sad. And I didn't know that about beer & Wisconsin. I thought it was all about the cheese!
ReplyDeleteThe pictures are GREAT! It is so cool to see the kids try and sort it all out and make sense of the day! :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a great 4th Jill! You got some great pics of the kids! We were at the ball fields, so we didn't get to do anything too patriotic, but I guess good ole American baseball was the next best thing!!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a great day. Loved the glassy eyed looks on Nicholas & Celia... probably quite a bit of stimulation with the noise and motion and colors. Next year should be even that much more fun for them.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful day for the family. Every time I see your pics I find myself wanting a new camera....and needing to learn a thing or two about photography along the way.
